Plus Size Fashion Tips: How to Spot Quality Clothes

Plus Size Fashion Tips
When you are shopping do you know enough about the construction of garments to know quality when you see it or do you just go by your personal assessment of what quality is? When it comes to plus size fashion in its current state there are a lot of new designers and brands on the market today who are putting out great looking clothes with a few standouts and a few flops.
With that in mind check out the two lists below.  The first list is from two years ago and the next one is from today.  All of the tips are meant to help you when making the decision to purchase.

2009 Tips
Double stitched hems on all seams -goodDresses that come with a lining – goodThe material is not translucent unless that is the way it is supposed to be – goodThe cut of the garment takes into account the person wearing it is larger – goodIf the material rubs off when rubbing between your fingers – badHigh end fashion at unusually low prices – badSize tag shows obvious signs of being tampered with – badBudget names for unusually high prices – bad
Numbers one and two are good signs of quality regardless of the time frame you are working with.  Numbers six and seven are signs that the quality may not be the best.

2011 Tips
Check to make sure hems and seams do not come apart when pulling on themIf you see too many stray threads this is not a good signInspect the spacing of the buttons on shirts to ensure even spacingInspect the material the buttons are made of.  Mother of pearl, wood, brass, impact plastic are goodSeams are 1/2? or wider (less means the manufacturer is trying to conserve fabric)Avoid extended sizes (These are made based on a smaller pattern that additional fabric is added to)For any type of pattern make sure it matches the seamline unless the designer intended it to not matchBall the fabric in your hand if it wrinkles heavily then the material may not be the best and may shrink considerably and look worn out after one wash
Price does not always mean quality.  In many cases higher prices mean higher prices and nothing more.  As I stated earlier when it comes to plus size fashion with so many players in the game you have to really do your homework to find the designer and style of clothes that loos best on you.
We all know that sweatshops are alive and well in the world of fashion.  Plus size fashion is no exception in this regard.  The dark side of plus size fashion quality usually come from this setting which is the main reason for checking quality.  FYI:  Fast fashions are known for quality issues and always have a lower price point.  Just because it is low cost does not mean it is cheaply made.
